Legal proceedings against the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for violating its vaccine pre-purchase agreement have been launched by the European Commission.
According to the representative of the EU executive, "the company was unable to come up with a credible strategy to ensure the timely administration of vaccines". The legal process began last Friday and they are competent to judge, in accordance with the contract between the Commission and pharmaceuticals, Belgian courts.
According to Health and Food Safety Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou, the decision to launch legal proceedings against pharmaceuticals was taken in consultation with the 27 EU Member States.
