 Filenews 26 April 2021

Turkish pharmaceutical company Viscoran Ilac will produce the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 in its factories, the company said in a joint statement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

The Turkish company has done the necessary studies to produce the vaccine in the country, and it is expected to start in the coming months.

It is noted that the Russian Sputnik V vaccine and the possibility of co-production with Turkey had previously been on the agenda of discussions between Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The agreement between the two sides stipulates that the RDIF will provide the Turkish side with assistance in gaining contacts with other major pharmaceutical companies. Technology will be transferred to the company, while there are negotiations with two other producers in the region.

The head of the RDIF, Kirill Dmitriev, made the following comment on the agreement: "The agreement with Viscoran İlaç leads to an increase in production capacity and helps the deliveries of Sputnik V worldwide. We have reached agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies in a number of countries in Asia, Latin America, Europe and thanks to these agreements the safe and effective Russian vaccine will be available for people in over 60 countries."

In turn, Öztürk Oran, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the pharmaceutical industry, pointed out that there are agreements on the production, distribution and execution of some clinical studies on the product.

"Our studies on this issue are continuing at a very good level. We are very happy to contribute to such a valuable product that is being discussed globally."
