APPROVED LABORATORIES FOR PCR AND RAPID TESTS

The Ministry of Health announces a revised list of private Clinical Laboratories, which have verified the process of carrying out the diagnostic methodology that detects the genetic material of the virus (RT-RCR), and rapid testing and to which citizens and/or businesses can privately report for examination. It is recalled that close contacts may be released earlier than 14 days if they so wish, in particular on the 7th day, provided that they show no symptoms and have a negative result from a molecular examination (PCR test), to which they are submitted on the 7th day, at their own expense, to one of the approved private clinical laboratories.

It should be noted that by The Infectious Diseases Decree No. 6, dated 8 January 2021, a maximum price has been set for the coronavirus COVID-19 to €50.

In particular, in addition to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics and the Microbiological Laboratories of the OKY Hospitals, the private Clinical Laboratories that have completed the process of verifying the diagnostic methodology that detects the genetic material of the virus (RT-RCR) are:

The Ministry of Health, taking into account the recommendations of the European Commission and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), on the minimum standards to be met by the SARS-CoV-2 rapid antigen detection tests, has drawn up a list of laboratories carrying out tests with these specifications.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs citizens that rapid saliva antigen detection tests are currently being evaluated at European Union level by Member States, as there is not yet sufficient data from independent clinical studies and their diagnostic value has not been proven. Therefore, pending the completion of the procedure and the adoption of guidelines by the ECDC, the Ministry of Health cannot accept the result of the above tests at this stage.

It is recalled that persons with a positive result of a rapid laboratory antigen detection test, which has not been carried out by mobile units of the Ministry of Health or by a private clinical laboratory included in the above list should contact their Personal Physician, informing him to proceed with a referral for molecular examination through the Public Health Clinics.

In any case, it is stressed that citizens with positive antigen tests should be immediately isolated and follow the self-isolation guidelines for confirmed cases of COVID-19. Further instructions will be given by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit following notification to it of the positive result by the clinical laboratory.

In cases of people with symptomatology suspected of coronavirus infection who have a negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test, it is recommended that they contact their Personal Physician in order to evaluate and arrange further investigation by the molecular method (RT-PCR).

In cases of people without symptoms and with a negative SARS-CoV-2 antigen test, it is stressed that they are not exempt from the risk of DEVELOPING COVID-19 infection and should continue the strict application of individual protection measures and protocols.

It should be noted that by The Infectious Diseases Decree No. 2, dated 8 January 2021, a maximum price has been set for a rapid antigen detection test for COVID-19 coronavirus of €20.
