The Ministry of Health announces that today, April 28, 2021:
- Three people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 306.
- 285 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 75 of whom are in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.
- A total of 40,811 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 845 (positivity rate: 2.07%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 64,565.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Woman, aged 78, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.
- Male, aged 62, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 88, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 306, of which:
- 200 men (65%), and
- 106 women (35%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 285 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 75 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 75 patients critical, 36 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 36 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 40,811 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,065 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 34,746 using the antigen rapid test, 845 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
• 113 cases from 1,156 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases. • 2 cases of 1,539 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports. • 201 cases from 2,967 samples taken through a private initiative. • 16 cases from 368 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals. • 25 cases from 882 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies. • 488 cases from 33,864 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
• 35 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
