895 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, SATURDAY

The Department of Health announced Saturday that one person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 298.

Meanwhile, 292 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 70 in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.

A total of 58,459 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid test and 895 (positivity rate: 1.53%) have been carried out.  895 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 61,576.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 94, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 298, of which:

  • 197 men (66%), and
  • 101 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 292 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P. hospitals, 70 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 70 patients critical, 33 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 34 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 58,459 diagnoses currently carried out, 7,330 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 51,129 using the antigen rapid test, 895 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 86 cases out of 1,343 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 1,869 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 192 cases from 3,410 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 38 cases from 509 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 199 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 25 cases from 853 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 546 cases from 50,276 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
