Six deaths and 690 new cases of coronavirus announced today by the Ministry of Health. At the same time 251 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 64 are in serious condition.
Specifically, the Ministry of Health announces that today, April 15, 2021:
- Six people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 283.
- 251 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 64 are in serious condition.
- A total of 50,902 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 690 (positivity rate: 1.36%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 53,944.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The six people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 67, with an underlying disease, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 85, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in Famagusta General Hospital.
- Male, aged 68, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 97, with underlying diseases, no history of vaccination, who ended up in Famagusta General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 71, with underlying diseases, without a history of vaccination who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Limassol General Hospital.
- Male, aged 82, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in Paphos General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 283, of which:
- 186 men (66%), and
- 97 women (34%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 251 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P. hospitals, 64 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 64 patients critical, 34 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 25 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 50,902 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,700 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 46,202 using the antigen rapid test, 690 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 136 cases from 1,077 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 3 cases of 1,026 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 129 cases out of 1,954 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 34 cases from 509 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1 case of 134 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
- 34 cases from 649 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 353 cases from 45,553 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
