668 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS, THURSDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 29 April 2021, the new victims of the pandemic in Cyprus are two men, while 668 are the new cases.

According to the announcement:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 308.
  • 279 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 75 are in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.
  • A total of 37,325 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 668 (positivity rate: 1.79%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 65,233.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 75, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 89, with a history of vaccination (2 doses), who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 308, of which:

  • 202 men (66%), and
  • 106 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 279 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 75 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 75 patients critical, 36 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 36 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 37,325 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,705 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 30,620 using the antigen rapid test, 668 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 65 cases from 2,995 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 166 cases out of 3,308 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 21 cases from 364 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 18 cases from 499 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 398 cases from 30,121 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 38 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
