565 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, MONDAY

One death and 565 new cases of coronavirus announced today by the Ministry of Health, concerning new cases of COVID-19 disease.

The Ministry announces that today, April 5, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 262.
  • 196 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 47 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 54,652 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 565 (positivity rate: 1.03%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 48,278.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Male, aged 74, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 262, of which:

  • 174 men (66%), and
  • 88 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 196 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 47 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 47 patients critical, 24 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 19 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 54,652 diagnoses currently carried out, 5,414 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 49,238 using the antigen rapid test, 565 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 120 cases from 703 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 cases from 2,778 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 44 cases out of 1,258 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 34 cases from 492 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 183 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 14 cases from 514 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 346 cases from 48,724 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
