529 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, WEDNESDAY

Two more deaths due to coronavirus were announced today by the Ministry of Health, while the new positive cases reached 529.

According to the Ministry's announcement:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 266.
  • 210 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 48 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 47,181 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 529 (positivity rate: 1.12%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 49,366.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 83, with underlying diseases, with a history of vaccination (1st dose), who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 42, with a very serious heart disease, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 266, of which:

  • 176 men (66%), and
  • 90 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 210 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 48 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 48 patients critical, 24 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 22 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 47,181 diagnoses currently carried out, 3,661 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 43,520 using the antigen rapid test, 529 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

• 132 cases from 756 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.                                                                                                                                                                       • 2 cases from 515 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.

• 98 cases from 1,909 samples taken through a private initiative.

• 10 cases from 242 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.

• 2 cases from 239 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.

• 285 cases from 43,520 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:

Above - Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Ammochostos, Nursing Homes - Nicosia, Limassol & Larnaca, Industrial Area Idaliou, Industrial Area Ypsonas, Education, Special Schools, National Guard.
