10,173 CASES IN 14 DAYS - AGES AND PROVINCES HIT BY CORONAVIRUS

 Filenews 30 April 2021

There were 10,173 positive cases of coronavirus between April 11 and 24, according to the National Report.

Specific:

The number of active incidents is moving at very high levels. The cumulative incidence of 14 days on a pancyprian basis recorded the highest value since the beginning of the pandemic with 1145.6/100,000. An increase in the cumulative impact of 14 days is recorded in all Provinces, namely:

Nicosia: 1187,6/100,000 from 915,1/100,000 in the previous period

Limassol: 1127,3/100,000 from 1038,7/100,000

Larnaca: 1201,3/100,000 from 991,9/100,000

Paphos: 772.5/100,000 from 627.9/100,000

Famagusta: 871,2/100,000 from 672,8/100,000

The cumulative incidence of 14 days per age group (Figure A1 – National Report) recorded an increase in all age groups:

0-19 years old: 1229,7/100,000 from 1007,8/100,000

20-59 years old: 1332.4/100,000 from 1084.9/100,000

60-69 years old: 790.7/100,000 from 677.6/100,000

70-79 of: 396,1/100,000 from 307,2/100,000

80+ years old: 343.3/100,000 from 265.7/100,000

On the positive side, the consistent overall cumulative incidence in the over-70s, despite the large spread of the virus in the community, apparently results in the highest vaccination coverage in this age group. Most cases were recorded at ages 20-29 and 30-39 (1919 and 1894 respectively) followed by the age group of 40-49 to 1641. These are the ages currently vaccinated or have the ability to schedule vaccination appointments at this time. The data confirm studies and data from other countries that vaccination in combination with adherence to health protocols, protect against disease and reduce the risk of serious disease and hospitalization.

From the rapid tests programme carried out by the Ministry of Health, there was an increase in weekly positivity rates in the Provinces of Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos, but also in Cyprus, a slight decrease in Limassol and Nicosia remained stable:

Cyprus: 1.3% from 1.2%

Nicosia: 1.2%

Limassol: 1.2% from 1.3%

Larnaca: 1.6% from 1.4%

Famagusta: 1.1% from 0.8%

Paphos: 1.1% from 0.9%

As a result of some flocks of cases observed on nursing homes, there was a further increase in the positivity rate from 0.4% to 0.6%.

The pressure on hospitals remains with the median age of nurses at 62 years. The median age of patients in ICU was 64 years.

The contagion index (R) was at 1.22 (1.19-1.25).
