A yellow warning for gale force winds has been issued by the Weather Service. The warning is valid from 8 p.m. on Wednesday until 4 a.m. on Thursday morning.
It says that at times windy westerly to north-westerly winds of intensity 8 beauforts are expected to affect the west and north coasts, while transient strong winds of intensity 7 beauforts of the same direction will affect locally the mountainous areas.
