VACCINATION WITH SPUTNIK V 'SHOULD BE REPEATED EVERY SIX MONTHS'

 Filenews 23 March 2021

The repeated administration of the Sputnik-V vaccine a few months after the first two doses may increase the protective effect, the Gamaleia Institute in Moscow announced on Tuesday where the vaccine was developed.

"It has been shown that revaccination with adenovirus-based vectors has been shown to be possible without losing immunogenicity in the antigen. In this way, re-vaccination with Sputnik-V is not only feasible but possibly more effective," said Aleksandr Ginsburg, director of the Institute.

He was referring to the adenovirus that the vaccine uses to transfer genetic instructions to cells to produce a SARS-CoV-2 antigen.

Ginsburg cited "a series of studies carried out in Russia and other countries." As he said, research has shown that the recurrence of vaccination six months after the first leads to the production of antibodies in 100% of volunteers,

As the Gamalay Scientific Center has explained, the choice of vaccine during re-vaccination is the responsibility of the treating physician.
