Despite reports of a new involvement in the case of the detachment of the giant ship "Ever Given" from the Suez Canal, the head of the Channel Authority in a statement appears to be ending the seven-day thriller.
Shortly after 4 p.m., he confirmed that the container ship was "liberated" and traffic in the Suez Canal has begun to be restored.
In fact, an eyewitness - according to Reuters - saw the ship moving normally, while Egyptian television broadcast footage showing it positioned in the centre of the Channel.
According to the Principle of the Canal, the ship had earlier partially detached, raising hopes that the busy passage would be released again in order to pass the ships that are waiting.
The ship, which is 400 metres long, was wedged diagonally in the middle of a southern part of the Canal due to strong winds last Tuesday, disrupting the movement of ships at the shortest sea crossing between Europe and Asia.
According to the competent authority, the movement of the ships will be restored when the "Ever Given" heads towards a wider part of the Canal. However, as head of the authority Osama Ubi said, it is likely to take two and a half to three days to clear the landscape in the Canal.
In a waiting area
Traffic will return to normal once the ship is moved to a waiting area in a more open part of the channel, the authority said. A total of 367 ships are waiting to pass.
"We will not waste a second," said the president of the Suez Canal Authority.
