The fire that broke out in the afternoon in the occupied castle of Agios Hilarion was brought under control.According to the Turkish Cypriot media kibrispostasi, the fire was brought under control after hours of efforts by the "fire service", soldiers and "civil defence" groups.
As it is transmitted, it is estimated that the fire was caused by lightning.
The "director" of the so-called fire service said the flames were brought under control at 8pm and cooling work was continuing.
The so-called minister of tourism and the environment said the cafeteria at the castle was completely burned down as a result of lightning. At the same time, he stressed that the flames were prevented from spreading to the places outside the cafeteria and that no damage was caused to the historic castle.
