Three drivers in one night alone were spotted by police in Paphos moving on the roads using substances, which magnifies the authorities' concerns about the extent of the problem.
In the first case, a car was seen by eyewitnesses on a city road following a crazy path, entering the oncoming traffic and ending up in an EAC stake, which was on the side of the road, causing it to be cut off.
Despite the fierce collision, the driver continued his course leaving the scene. However, members of the public held back the vehicle's registration numbers, which they reported to the police who were called to the scene. They were found to correspond to a vehicle registered with a Slovak resident of Paphos, who is estimated to have been under the influence of substances.
An arrest warrant has been issued against him and he is wanted.
On the same night police patrols in Paphos also spotted a Georgian resident of Paphos, 45, driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as a 26-year-old Romanian positive in a drug test.
Both were charged in writing to be called to court, while their vehicles were seized and transferred to the Paphos Police Directorate.
