The purchase of 50,000 vaccines produced by the Russian company Sputnik, immediately after its approval by the competent European authorities, was decided by the Council of Ministers.
Speaking to RIK Third Radio, government spokesman Kyriakos Kousios said that once the relevant approvals are given, Cyprus will proceed to purchase these quantities of vaccines to meet the country's needs.
He also said the issue was being handled by the Minister of Health, who has the ability to negotiate with the company in order to obtain a higher number of vaccines at a later stage.
