The national report with statistics on the evolution of the epidemic up to and from 23 March and the analysis of deaths until 24 March, was published today by the Ministry of Health.

The national report and the analysis of the deaths indicate the following:

  • It appears that the growth trend in the weekly positivity rate is being halted this week, but remains at relatively high levels. In Limassol Province it recorded a slight drop to 1% from 1.3% last week.
  • The rate of positivity in rapid tests carried out in nursing homes remains at an extremely low rate and this is noted in the very positive. According to data from the nurses, there are no longer any patient admissions from nursing homes.

  • After some time, there is a stabilisation of the cumulative impact of 14 days, which nevertheless remains at very high levels for the whole of Cyprus (573.5/100,000 compared to 529.6/100,000 in the previous period). In Limassol Province the cumulative impact also shows signs of stabilisation but again at extremely high levels (1130,1/100,000).
  • The median age of COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days was 36 years.

  • The picture in the hospitals shows a significant burden still, but with some signs of stabilization. The median age of the nurses was 62 years. 58.8% of those hospitalized were male and 63.1% were from Limassol Province.

  • Imports continue to concern people mainly under 60 and from Limassol.

  • Between 1 March and 24 March, 17 deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19 disease were recorded, with 88% of deaths being people with permanent residence in Limassol Province. Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100,000 inhabitants (34.2 deaths per 100,000 population).
