Cyprus Mail 6 March 2021 - by Evie Andreou

The health ministry on Saturday announced that the vaccination of people who are not Gesy beneficiaries has started, while also marking the 100,000 vaccinations administered so far.

According to the ministry, the vaccinations of people, who are not Gesy beneficiaries but are in the eligible groups, have started. This group of people should submit a form to the health ministry.

Vaccinations of health professionals continue, the ministry said.

In the meantime, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou announced that Cyprus has reached 100,000 vaccinations and may exceed the initial planned schedule since the vaccination programme is picking up pace week by week.

“Thanks to the vaccines, hundreds of lives are being saved, while thousands are avoiding getting ill,” Ioannou said in a statement.

He added that Cyprus’ good performance concerning the pandemic will continue, “bringing us closer to the end”. He called on people to be patient a bit longer.

“I understand there is fatigue. But until most of the population is vaccinated, we must adhere to the protection measures. It is the only way to save lives and maintain the resilience of the health system,” Ioannou said.

The minister thanked people for willingly getting vaccinated and the nurses who, “tirelessly offer hope to us all”.
