Particular attention is recommended to the public by the Police, for protection against fraudulent phone calls made to citizens through a social networking platform and possibly aimed at the posting of personal information and money.
Phone calls are falsely shown to come from Service accounts, such as the Police, on a social networking platform. They appear to be made from telephone numbers abroad, but it is not excluded that such calls may show a false telephone number in Cyprus on the citizens' telephone screen.
It is believed that the perpetrators' intention is, through their telephone contact with citizens, to extract personal and bank account details, with the aim of then extracting money from bank accounts.
Police are urging the public to be particularly careful if they contact unknown persons. As always, citizens who receive these phone calls are advised not to provide any details of their bank accounts and other personal data.
