336 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH - Sunday

Another death due to coronavirus was announced today, while another 336 new cases were identified.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Health:

  • One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 243.
  • 212 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 45 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 47,306 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 336 (positivity rate: 0.71%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 42,218.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 95, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 243, of which:

  • 161 men (67%), and
  • 82 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 212 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP Hospitals, 45 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 45 patients critical, 19 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 23 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 47,306 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 1,554 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 45,752 using the antigen rapid test, 336 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 87 cases from 645 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 39 cases out of 505 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 1 case of 231 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 209 cases from 45,640 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 112 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 173 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
