Filenews 10 February 2021 - by Andrea Demetriou
Dramatic will be the change of weather in the next few days, since the summer is expected to leave us and in its place there will be rain and a decrease in temperature.
More specifically, in a statement to Filenews, the Senior Officer of the Department of Meteorology, Filippos Tymbrios said that from Sunday afternoon a new system arrives on the island that will give rain and snow to areas beyond 1000 meters, while there will also be a noticeable drop in temperature. The climax of the system will be on Tuesday.
Asked about the phenomenon that has affected Europe in recent days with dust from the Sahara resulting in a reduction in air quality, Mr Tymbio clarified that here Cyprus is not expected to see dust in the coming days.
Detailed weather in the coming days
Weak high pressure affects the area. In the afternoon, the weather will generally be mostly atrium but locally there will be increased clouds from time to time. In the atmosphere there will be intermittently sparse dust, which gradually subsides. Winds will blow west to northwest and local to southwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort but transiently to the coast to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be up to a little turbulent.
Tonight, the weather will be mostly atrium but in the west and north there will be transiently increased clouds. During the early hours, sparse fog may form locally. Winds will blow northwest as northeast and locally variable, weak, 2 to 3 Beaufort and the sea will be calm until a little turbulent. The temperature will drop around 7 degrees inland, around 9 degrees on the coast and around 5 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tomorrow, the weather will be mostly atrium but from time to time there will be locally increased clouds. Winds will blow in the morning northeast to southeast and locally variable, 3 Beaufort to become after noon southeast to southwest and local to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm until a little agitated. The temperature will rise around 20 degrees inland, on the south and east coasts, around 19 on the west and north coasts and around 15 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Friday and the weekend, the weather will generally be mostly atrium but locally there will be increased clouds from time to time. At night and early in the morning it is very likely that in areas mainly in the eastern half of the island there will be sparse fog or even fog and low cloud.
The temperature is not expected to change significantly until Sunday, remaining above average climatic values.
