POLICE WARN ABOUT RECENT SCAMS

 18/2/21

In recent times, the Police have received complaints from citizens receiving misleading/extortionate e-mails aimed at defrauding them and raising money.

Specifically, these are e-mails, which have been sent in recent times to random e-mail accounts, in which the sender informs the user that malicious software has been installed on his computer, with which he had access to his files, including erotic content web pages, and asks for a large amount of money in bitcoins not to publish them.

The Police call on the public who receive such e-mails to ignore them and inform internet users that these are malicious acts and these types of messages are intended to deceptively persuade citizens to pay the sums of money requested to them.

HELLENIC SMS SCAM

There is also an SMS circulating purporting to come from Hellenic Bank.  This asks you to confirm your phone number via a sent link.
