A letter informing about the vaccine of AstraZeneca, which will be used for pandemic vaccinations in Cyprus, without an age limit, was sent yesterday to the Association of Cypriot Pensioners, the Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou, following the information requested by the EKYSY itself.
In a statement yesterday, the ECYSY states that it had requested "correct and extensive information" to both the elderly and all citizens in general on vaccinations, since as it notes "several countries of the European Union, including Greece, have decided and propose that the AstraZeneca vaccine be made only to citizens under 65 years of age".
The ECYSY cites as such the letter of the competent Minister, which states that the Ministry of Health, given the pandemic situation and the increased risk of disease and deaths at older ages, as well as the limited availability of vaccines, has decided that it will offer the AstraZeneca vaccine, without any age restriction, following the recommendations of the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organisation. , however, enabling the citizen to know what type of vaccine is to be given to him.
As he notes, among other things, the aim is to better cover a larger part of the population, noting that the AstraZeneca vaccine has been evaluated by the most competent international scientific bodies, which have reported that there were not enough results in elderly participants (over 55 years of age) to give an insight into how well the vaccine will work in this group, however , protection is expected, as immuno-response is observed in this age group and is based on experience with other vaccines.
