INCREASED TRANSMISSION BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND IN WORKPLACES

 Filenews 22 February 2021

Increased transmission of the virus at both intra-family and workplace levels is evidenced by the in-depth detection of positive COVID-19 events. Following a meeting held last week, the findings of the Tracing Group from the most thorough investigation of the contacts of the cases were presented today to the Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou.

Initially, there was an increase in the number of contacts reported from each case, from 3-4 people reported on average, to 7-8 people. This has contributed to better investigation and immediate examination of the cases, preventing the spread of the virus on a pancyprian basis.

As part of the secondary contact tracing, 774 people were examined and six cases of coronavirus were detected. With this practice, cases were detected more quickly, without wasting valuable time until the positiveization of the individuals who are the link in the chain.

In addition, the tracing shows that, compared to the 1st wave, there is increased transmission of the virus to family members. Similar complacency is observed in workplaces, where it appears that health protocols are not adhered to faithfully in the part of the socialisation of staff in the workplace (e.g. common breaks, non-application of personal protection measures during breaks, etc.). It is recalled that 50% of workers are allowed to be physically present in service undertakings and that compliance with the health guidelines should be ensured in any case.

Finally, it was decided to investigate more extensively the social activities of cases, in order to identify more specifically a possible problem in places/sectors, such as sport, etc.
