107 NEW CASES - SUNDAY

Another 107 new cases (the same number as yesterday) of coronavirus out of a total of 35,028 checks, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday, with the daily positivity rate falling to 0.31%.

With today's cases, the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic amounted to 33,260, while for the second day in a row no deaths with the final cause of the disease were announced, with the total number of deaths remaining at 229 people.

At the same time, the Ministry announced that the total number of nurses increased to 81 from 77 on Saturday, of which 24 were in serious condition.

The new incidents

According to the Ministry of Health, of the 35,028 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 916 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 34,112 using the antigen rapid test and 107 cases of COVID-19 were detected.

In particular, 34 cases from 128 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) of cases, 1 case of 84 samples taken through the process of tracing secondary case contacts, 7 cases from 351 samples taken through a private initiative, 5 cases from 145 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, and 60 cases from 34,078 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through its programme Ministry of Health.

For cases by province, 39 cases were diagnosed in Limassol from 9,656 checks with the positivity rate at 0.40%, in Nicosia 12 cases were detected after 14,238 checks with a positivity rate of 0.08%, the same as Larnaca where 4 cases were currently detected after 5,144 checks. In Paphos, 3 new cases were diagnosed after 3,261 with a positivity rate of 0.09, while in Famagusta the positivity rate stood at 0.11%, after 2 cases were detected after 1,779 checks.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 229, of which:

  • 153 men (67%), and
  • 76 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 81 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 24 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 24 patients critical, 14 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and seven in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 34 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 205 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 3 samples taken as part of a check by the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
