IN PRISON FOR LUXURY CAR FRAUD

 Filenews 23 February 2021 - Ioanna Mantziepa

An immediate three-year prison sentence was imposed yesterday by the Limassol District Court on a 30-year-old man charged with luxury vehicle fraud. The defendant, according to the Court's ruling, was sentenced to three years in prison for the offences of theft by a dealer committed between 2015 and 2016.

According to the facts of the case, the 30-year-old had managed to extract from 25 prospective buyers of luxury cars the sum of 345 thousand euros, promising to bring them cars from England at a bargain price. The 30-year-old reportedly just received the advance from his victims, disappeared and could not be traced.

The case was registered in 2016 and threw a curtain yesterday, with the defendant pleading guilty to committing the offences.

The court took into account as mitigating factors the young person's age, his family and personal circumstances as well as his admission. The 30-year-old compensated some of his victims by paying a total of 57 thousand euros.

It should be noted that the 30-year-old is also in the business of justice in another case. In particular, he is charged in the case of the 645kg of drugs in BBQ units found in Sydney, Australia, which left the port of Limassol.
