131 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, MONDAY

Another person has been killed by COVID-19 disease today, February 22, bringing the total number of deaths to 230. This is a man, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

In addition, as announced by the Ministry of Health:

  • 76 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 26 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 34,190 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 131 (positivity rate: 0.38%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 33,391.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Man, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 230, of which:

  • 154 men (67%), and
  • 76 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 76 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 26 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 26 patients critical, 12 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and eight in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 34,190 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 2,553 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 31,637 using the antigen rapid test, 131 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 34 cases from 312 samples taken through the process of tracing close contacts (primary contacts) cases.
  • 1 case of 158 samples taken through the process of tracing secondary case contacts.
  • 6 cases from 899 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 10 cases from 712 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 5 cases from 200 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 75 cases from 31,238 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 399 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 272 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
