As part of an upgrade of the capabilities of the Republic's Search and Rescue System and following a decision of the Council of Ministers, 2 Special Nursing Teams of Air Transport (MEDEC-MEDical EVACuation) were set up, based on the bases of the R&D flight instruments.
The 2 MEDECAC Teams, which will be staffed by experienced and qualified Nurses, are in full operation from today 1 February 2021, subject to the Ambulance Service of the OKYP.
The establishment of the MEDEVAC Teams and the maintenance of daily preparedness of a nursing officer within helicopter bases, with the possibility of immediate response, greatly enhances the capabilities of the R&D System to provide services in incidents requiring air transport.
On this occasion, the CSED expresses its warm thanks to the Regional Directorate of Civil Defence Larnaca, which, in response to its volunteer nurses, successfully covered the needs of the R&D System in the field of air transport, for as long as it was required.
