106 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - SUNDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 31 January 2021, two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 199.

140 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 50 are in serious condition.

A total of 28,364 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

106 (positivity rate: 0.37%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 30,876.

Here are today's results in detail.

Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

Male, aged 80, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Woman, aged 71, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 199 of which:

134 men (67%), and

65 women (33%).

Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 28,364 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 1,067 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 27,297 using the antigen rapid test, 106 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

25 cases from 284 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.

5 cases from 401 samples taken through a private initiative.

4 cases from 154 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.

1 case of 228 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and Special Teams Control through Public Health Clinics.

71 cases from 27,297 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79.5 years.
