The Ministry of Health announces that today, February 9, 2021:
- No deaths of patients with a final cause of death on COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 214.
- 94 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 35 are in serious condition.
- A total of 25,427 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 95 (positivity rate: 0.37%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 31,959.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 214, of which:
- 145 men (68%), and
- 69 women (32%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 94 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P. hospitals, 35 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 35 patients critical, 23 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and 12 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 25,427 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 1,559 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 23,868 using the antigen rapid test, 95 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 24 cases from 204 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 6 cases from 624 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 12 cases from 244 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 7 cases from 708 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
- 46 cases from 23,160 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 130 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 52 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
- 305 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
