A letter to Interior Minister Nikos Nouris was sent by The Ecologists MP Giorgos Perdikis, asking for information on "when, why and on the basis of what procedure was granted part of the public green space for the opening of a road and the acquisition of access to the enclosed piece of land" next to Lake Maglis for the separation of 11 plots by a private individual.
Mr Perdikis states in his letter that, to the best of his knowledge, land has been exchanged with another green space and asks to know if this is indeed the case. The letter also states that the separation of the 11 plots is carried out on a piece in contact with the northern embankment of Lake Maglis.
The Green MP, citing a topographical study of the development secured by Lakatamia Town Hall, says that part of the public green space appears to have been granted to create access to the enclosed block, namely Pyros Street. At the same time, Mr Perdikis asks whether the value of the piece from this land swap has also been calculated.
Similar questions were put by Mr Perdikis and the Mayor of Lakatamia in a letter sent to her.
It is noted that the Municipality of Lakatamia had denied information that Lake Maglis was in the process of being removed. The same communication stated that the projects carried out on the north side of the lake concern the development of land separation located in a Residential Zone and for which the required permits have been issued (urban/building).
The municipality also announced that it "over time advocates the conservation of the lake, since it is a habitat of great importance to the ecosystem", and added in the announcement: "It is an oasis within the city, offering the inhabitants of Lakatamia, and not only, a landscape of unparalleled beauty and making it ideal for family walks and other activities".
Finally, the municipality stated that it is requesting that the process of exchanging the area of the lake be speeded up so that it can be passed on to the State, a process which is under way in the Department of Lands and Surveys. It is noted that local residents are collecting protest signatures on the project under way.
Within the 11 plots, the construction of two-storey houses with large gardens is planned.
