As part of the strategy to phase out restrictive measures, and on the basis of Cabinet decisions, the Ministry of Health is proceeding with a national programme of free testing with rapid antigen testing of workers who will return to their workplace from 1 February. The aim is to reopen businesses as smoothly and as safely as possible in order to significantly reduce the risk of the virus spreading within workplaces.
In order to better serve the general population and workers, but also to avoid confusion, 51 points are activated in Cyprus sampling units that will operate, from 28 to 31 January 2021, in extended hours, with two workshops per point and with the possibility of carrying out more than 20,000 tests per day. Please note that a condition for them to return to work is the presentation of a negative rapid test result.
At the same time, in an effort to intensify and continuously monitor the epidemiological picture, and in consultation with the employers' organisations OEV, KEVE and POVEK, as well as other Associations representing professional groups, the mandatory weekly check with rapid antigen test of staff working in enterprises in operation and/or will be re-enactivated in the following period, as follows:
- Enterprises/services employing up to 3 people, the audit should be carried out on all employees.
- Enterprises/services employing between 4 and 10 persons should be checked on at least 4 employees.
- Enterprises/services employing more than 10 people should be checked on at least 4 persons or 20% of employees, whichever is greater in number.
Companies, taking advantage of the sampling to be carried out through the Ministry of Health's programme, have a responsibility to coordinate the resumption of employee control, ensuring that they have at all times and weekly rapid test on their staff as specified above. It should be noted that from next week, spot checks will be carried out by Health Officers on undertakings to monitor the implementation of the measure.
It should be clarified that, due to the targeting to be made in the examination of workers, in the period 28-31 January the employee control programme will be carried out in parallel with the general population control programme.

Finally, it is noted that those employees and/or businesses who wish can undergo a rapid antigen test in private clinical laboratories, and the costs will be borne by themselves and/or their businesses. It is recalled that the maximum charge price for rapid antigen testing in private clinical laboratories is €20.
