The Municipality of Pegia and the community of Talas, remain forever outside the sewerage system of the greater Paphos region, as was their requirement, based on their particular geomorphological peculiarities.
Confirming the exclusive news of the "F" of 22 December, the relevant decision of the Council of Ministers is published today in the Official Journal of the Government and now the suspension of membership in force until 2027, is now permanently converted into permanent exemption from their accession to the Paphos Supply Council.
Our information was confirmed by the President of the Community Council of Talas, Areti Pieridou, who stressed that this exemption has now become permanent after the continuous actions of the two local authorities.
"We have long formalised our intention to raise the issue of our permanent exemption from the SSP, based on the geological peculiarities of the areas, as well as the mileage from the facilities of the Paphos water system," she stressed. "This fight has now come to fruition and our regions are permanently excluded from their obligation to join the SSPA, a move that we considered wrong and heterogeneous from the outset for the citizens of Tala and Pegia because of the unfavourable position they find themselves in on this issue."
The decision to freeze initially the accession of the Municipality of Pegia and K.S. Talas to the S.A.P.A. was taken after a meeting at the Ministry of the Interior, about eight years ago, while after the finalization of those decisions, the citizens of Pegia and the residents of Talas were not charged since then with the annual fee for a discount, nor did the transfer documents of purchases in these areas include the relevant fees.
The Community Leader Talas expressed her absolute satisfaction with the developments, stressing that the effort to convince those responsible for the peculiarities of Tala counts for many years.
"During this time," she stressed, "contacts with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture continued, as well as our performances, since our position was that the geological and morphological peculiarities of Tala make it impossible for us to integrate into a system of sewerage."
