CYPRUS WILL RECEIVE HALF EXPECTED VACCINE DOSES FROM PFIZER ON 18 JANUARY

 Filenews 15 January 2021

The Ministry of Health, following an update received this afternoon from the European Commission and Pfizer, informs that, due to an upgrade in its production capacity to be carried out by the company, the quantities of vaccine to be delivered in the next period to all Member States of the European Union will be temporarily reduced.

The decrease in quantity will temporarily affect shipments in the second half of January until the beginning of February, without affecting the total quantity to be delivered in Q1 2021.

With regard to Cyprus, it is stressed that vaccinations scheduled for the coming week, as well as the 3,466 appointments that will be made available on Monday and will be carried out in the week of 25-29 January 2021, are not affected. Furthermore, with a view to the start of administration of the 2nd dose to persons vaccinated from 27 December 2020 onwards, it is specified that the quantities required for the 2nd dose are stored and, therefore, vaccinations will be carried out seamlessly.

In Cyprus, 3,510 doses of the vaccine are expected to be received on 18 January instead of 6,825 which was the initial estimated delivery.
