CYPRUS IS 2nd IN EUROPE IN THE TESTS TABLE

 Filenews 15 January 2021

Cyprus ranks 2nd among 29 European states in relation to laboratory tests per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the European Centre for Infection Control and Prevention (ECDC). Recent ECDC data record the increased number of tests carried out in Cyprus, compared to other European states, highlighting the great effort made since the onset of the pandemic for epidemiological control in the community.

Cyprus, following ECDC guidelines, has from the outset based its strategy for managing the coronavirus pandemic on increased laboratory tests both targeted at specific population groups and in the community.

Firstly, by carrying out control programmes in workers, sectors/sectors of the economy, closed and other structures, etc., using the molecular examination method (PCR) and then, using the rapid antigen rapid test, it aims at continuous epidemiological surveillance of the population and the timely detection and isolation of positive cases, reducing the transmission of the virus.

According to the ECDC, the application of the practice for increased tests in the community in combination with the measures and health protocols in force in the States, contributes to the reduction of epidemiological indicators and allows for a steady de-escalation of restrictions .
