529 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, SUNDAY JANUARY 3

Another two people died from Covid-19 while 529 new cases of the disease were identified out of a total of 12,051 tests, the Department of Health announced On Sunday, while noting that 182 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized, 45 in serious condition.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Health, the death toll in Cyprus now stands at 131 while the total number of people infected with the virus stands at 23,974.

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 3, 2021:

- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 131.

- 182 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 45 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 12,051 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 529 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 23,974.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Male, aged 68, with no underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 76, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 131, of which:

- 87 men (67%), and

- 44 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 182 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P. hospitals, 45 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 45 patients critical, 19 are intubated, nine are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 17 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID -19(PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 12,051 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 2,839 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 9,212 using the antigen rapid test, 529 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 132 cases from 943 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 472 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 41 cases from 785 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 336 samples taken under the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 22 cases from 303 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 325 cases from 9,212 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
