259 NEW CASES, AND FOUR DEATHS - Tuesday

Four people have died from COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 157, while 259 new cases were detected today Tuesday.

197 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 58 are in serious condition.

A total of 13,231 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

259 (positivity rate: 1.96%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 27,897.

The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 60, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 78, with no underlying illnesses listed on the death certificate, which ended up at Troodos Regional Hospital.
  • Man, aged 91, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 84, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 157, of which 106 are men (68%), and 51 women (32%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 197 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 58 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 58 patients critical, 30 are intubated, eight are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 in an Increased Care Unit.

Positive events COVID -19(PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 13,231 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 2,790 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 10,441 using the antigen rapid test, 259 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 72 cases from 497 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 566 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 31 cases from 1,013 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 18 cases from 354 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 242 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case of 10 samples taken as part of a check by the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
  • 133 cases from 10,441 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 108 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.

Eleventh death in occupied due to Covid 19

Another man in the occupied territories lost his life with covid 19 disease, bringing the total number of victims of the pandemic to 11, it was announced a short time ago.

This is an 84-year-old man, Hassan Akin who was being treated in the intensive care unit of the pandemic centre at the general hospital in occupied Nicosia. He was reportedly a patient with chronic diseases and was therefore transferred to intensive care.

Meanwhile yesterday the Committee on Infectious/Contagious Diseases of the Ministry of Health decided to extend until 15 January the measures in force until yesterday. Thus, the activities of companies such as cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, sports halls, beauty centres, etc. continue after 22.00. After this time there will only be a home delivery of food. People working in these companies should repeat the PCR test. Entertainment venues, taverns, bars, clubs, and massage rooms remain closed until 15 January.

With a negative 72-hour PCR test, people living or working in the village of Pyla, those working in the United Nations, the EU, the Missing Persons Investigative Committee, British Bases, the Dead Zone and the UN Peacekeeping Force will be able to move through the barricades.

Persons residing in the occupied territories and treated in the Republic-controlled areas will be able to enter the occupied areas without quarantine. These persons and their attendants (if necessary) should present a negative result of a PCR examination carried out within the last 72 hours, while on the 7th and 14th day after their return to the occupied territories they should undergo a new examination and send the results to the 'Ministry of Health'.

Persons residing in the occupied territories and working in the Republic-controlled areas will be quarantined until 15 January, as will persons residing in the occupied territories and studying in the free areas.

Persons residing in the occupied territories who trade without contact under the Green Line Regulation can continue their work without the obligation to quarantine.

From the Limnite roadblock they will be able to enter the occupied without quarantine only ambulances passing for medical incidents. All other crossings will be quarantined.

People living in Pergamos and engaged in livestock and agricultural work in the Area of British Bases will be able to go to work for one day and enter the occupied without quarantine.

The ban on gathering in the homes of more than 10 people, as well as the ban on weddings, group prayers, inaugurations, the operation of cinemas and theatres, etc. is extended until 15 January 2021.

Funerals are only allowed to be held by first-degree relatives, while sports matches will be held without spectators.
