The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 14, 2021:
- Three people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 166.
- 202 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 59 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 10,328 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 241 (positivity rate: 2.33%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 28,365.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- A man, aged 79, with underlying illnesses, ended up in Famagusta General Hospital.
- Male, aged 75, without mentioning underlying diseases in the medical certificate of causes of death, which ended up in Limassol General Hospital.
- A man, aged 76, with an underlying disease, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 166, of which:
- 110 men (66%), and
- 56 women (34%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 202 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 59 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 59 patients critical, 32 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 22 in an Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 10,328 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 2,141 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 8,187 using the antigen rapid test, 241 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
• 75 cases from 456 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
• 5 cases from 168 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
• 33 cases from 955 samples taken through a private initiative.
• 20 cases from 400 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
• 1 case of 98 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
• 107 cases from 8,187 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
• 64 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
