Today, January 1, 2021, it was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Health that two people died due to Covid-19 disease, while 167 new cases were detected. Detail:
-Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 127.
-168 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 48 of whom are in serious condition.
-A total of 3,226 disease detection tests have been performed using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
-167 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 22,818.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
-Male, aged 80years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital after being transferred from the Standard Holistic Care and Rehabilitation Center in Famagusta Province.
-Male, aged 71years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 127, of which:
-85 men (67%), and
-42 women (33%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 168 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 48 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 48 patients critical, 20are intubated, eight are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 3,226 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 559 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 2,667 using the antigen rapid test, 167 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
•10 cases from 346 samples taken through a private initiative.
•4 cases from 47 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
•153 cases from 2,667 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
•150 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
•16 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
