USEFUL TIPS FOR PEDESTRIANS - From Cyprus Police

 7/12/20 - From Cyprus Police

In the last 72 hours we have already counted two dead pedestrians in an equal number of fatal road traffic collisions. Twelve of the 42 dead, 28.75% of this year's road traffic collisions were pedestrian. Pedestrians, as we know, belong to vulnerable road users and deserve special attention.

As part of the police's efforts to reduce road traffic collisions and to improve road awareness by road users, useful tips for pedestrian traffic are listed:

Use the pavement. Where there is no sidewalk, walk on the right side of the road.

Always use the walkway, where available, or carefully cross from a secured place.
Look and listen carefully around you for moving vehicles.
Before crossing, first look to the right, then left and right again.
When there are no moving vehicles near you, cross the road vertically.
Do not cross a winding road or near an uphill peak.
Never cross while in parked vehicles because you are not easily visible from passing cars.
Select the most visible spot to cross.
At night always wear special fluorescent clothes with reflective strips or bright light-colored clothes to be noticed by the drivers of motor vehicles.

Good and responsible road behaviour undoubtedly contributes to reducing road traffic collisions and improving road safety.
