DEVELOPMENTS FOR THREE HOT NATURALISED CASES

Filenews 29 December 2020 - by  Michalis Hatzivasilis

At a very advanced stage there are three cases of naturalized foreign investors arising from the finding of the Kalogiros committee and after the holidays come important developments.

A team of investigators under the Chief of Police yesterday had a long meeting with the heads of the Legal Service where an update was held on the course of the interrogations of serious cases that concerned public opinion and will soon come to an end.

Information from the "F" indicates that in addition to the case involving the naturalization of three Iranians recently investigated in Larnaca in the premises of five persons, another case concerning naturalizations in Paphos is currently at a very advanced stage.

The investigating team examining this case informed of the stage at which the investigations are located and instructions were given on the next moves. According to the same information, investigators are one step ahead of applying for warrants, which will, it is estimated, be done after the holidays. Several persons are alleged to be involved in this case, however, all depending on the testimony that exists and the documents filed to ensure the naturalisms, which according to the Kalogirou finding, some of them were false.

Another team of investigators is also investigating the long-standing case of Malaysian Joe Law's naturalization of a Cypriot in 2015, for which the Kalogirou Commission says he obtained it fraudulently and falsely. Investigations into this case are also at an advanced stage and it is taking a turn for developments. A case of naturalisation investigated by the Kalogirou Commission is still being investigated at the POLICE HEADQUARTERS, but there does not appear to be as strong evidence as for others.

Asked by "F" to comment on what was happening, Attorney General George Savvides said in general that there had been a lengthy briefing on various cases being investigated by the Police and added that investigations were continuing at an intensive pace. The goal, he said, is to make careful movements with method rather than impressive moves. Police Chief Stelios Papatheodorou also told "F" that during the meeting at the Legal Service, three cases arising from the Kalogirou finding were informed and added that investigations were on track.

It is noted here that today, as announced by the Presidential Committee last Friday, the findings of the three-member Kalogiros Committee will be published, after some names have been removed so as not to affect the ongoing investigations and not to infringe personal data.
