CORONAVIRUS - DO NOT EXCLUDE STRICTER MEASURES - 4 SCENARIOS

Filenews 5 December 2020 - by Marilena Panagi

Since Monday scientists and the Ministry of Health have been thrown back into the battle for a detailed recording and evaluation of all epidemiological data in order to record their contributions and be ready by Wednesday at the latest, to give direction once again to the Government, which will be called upon before the end of the week to take decisions again.

In fact, information from the "F" indicates that yesterday there was also the necessary planning for the meetings and meetings that will take place at the beginning of the week, both at the level of the Minister of Health and scientists, as well as at the level of the Minister of Health and President of the Republic, and in all likelihood, the new meeting of the Council of Ministers, which will also take the final decisions, will take place on Friday under the Presidency or not of the President of the Republic. , which is unclear whether he will return to Cyprus from Brussels where he will be before Saturday.

In fact, the Government's choices are four:

Insist on its original design and proceed normally to the implementation of what has been announced on 30 November and provide that from 14 December there will be a loosening of the restrictions.

To extend the validity of the measures now in force in an effort to achieve a restriction on the spread of the crown in society.

To tighten up the measures, in case the data will be recorded over the next few days, the epidemiological picture of Cyprus remains at the same levels.

To proceed with a completely new design in order to achieve on the one hand the limitation of gatherings and contacts between citizens and, on the other hand, the smooth functioning of the market in view of the festive season.

In recent days, however, both the Minister of Health and the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee in their statements have left open the possibility of revising the previous decisions, suggesting that extending the existing restrictions or even tightening the measures currently in force are the two most likely scenarios, at least for a short period of time.

Yesterday, the death of three other people was announced, two of whom, an 84-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man, were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia hospital, while a 94-year-old woman was being treated in The Limassol Hospital after being transferred from the multi-powered Peristeron centre.

In hospitals, according to the Ministry of Health, 17 patients are hospitalized in critical condition, 13 of them in the ICU and four in the Increased Care Unit. The total number of patients in hospitals yesterday was 111.

Furthermore, 289 cases were reported resulting from 3,848 molecular tests and 176 positive results from rapid diagnostic tests. The positive results of the rapid diagnosis tests include 10 cases which again concern the multi-power center of Peristeron.

Of 5,714 rapid diagnostic tests, 176 positive results were obtained

In the province of Nicosia a total of 85 positive results were recorded, of which 10 were in the multi-powered centre of Peristeron, 18 in the Municipality of Idari and 14 in the Community of Menoikos.

In Limassol province, eight positive results were obtained, six of which were carried out in the Mesa Neighbourhood area and two by checks in the city centre.

In the province of Larnaca the number of positive results reached 71. 50 resulted from sampling carried out at two central points of the city and 21 from the checks carried out in the Municipality of Aradippou.

In Paphos province, 120 checks were carried out without a positive result.

In Famagusta province, 12 positive results were obtained from sampling in the Municipality of Paralimni.

225 checks were carried out in public and private hospitals to no avail.

33 checks were carried out without a positive result in National Guard camps.
