289 POSITIVE CASES AND THREE DEATHS FRIDAY - PLUS 176 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS to be confirmed by PCR

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 4, 2020:

- Three people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 57.

- 111 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 17 of whom are in critical condition.

- A total of 9,562 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 3,848 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 5,714 using the rapid test.

- 289 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 11,812. The 289 include 56 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

-In 176 cases from the rapid antigen detection tests there was a positive result which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Woman, aged 84 years, without underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.

- Male, aged 78 years, without underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 94 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in Limassol General Hospital after being transferred from the Multi-Powered Center of Peristeron.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 57, of which:

- 37 men (65%), and

- 20 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 111 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 17 of whom are in critical condition.

Of the 17 patients critical, 13 are intubated, another 2 are in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 4 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Molecular Examination (PCR test)

Of the 3,848 laboratory diagnoses carried out today by the Molecular Method (PCR), 289 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 90 cases from 795 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 110 cases out of 1,772 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 20 cases from 303 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 7 cases from 456 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff.
  • 4 cases from 87 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria.
  • 2 cases from 37 samples taken under the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 56 cases from 57 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 299 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 41 laboratory tests were carried out, and
  • As part of the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, we had a result for 1 sample.
