270 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS - SUNDAY [plus 202 positive rapid tests to be confirmed by PCR]

270 new cases of the disease were identified today and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 12,451. The 270 include 69 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days. Detail:

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 6, 2020:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 61.
  • 121 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 18 are in critical condition.
  • A total of 7,918 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 2,090 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 5,828 using the rapid test.
  • 270 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 12,451. The 270 include 69 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
  • In 202 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID disease-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 72, with underlying diseases, who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 86, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital after being transferred from the Multi-Powered Center of Peristeron.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 61, of which:

  • 39 men (64%), and
  • 22 women (36%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 121 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 18 of whom are in critical condition.

Of the 18 patients critical, 10 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 6 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Molecular Examination(PCR test))

Of the 2,090 laboratory diagnoses carried out today by the Molecular Method (PCR), 270 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 96 cases from 522 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 84 cases from 931 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 16 cases from 213 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 96 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff.
  • 3 cases from 253 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 69 cases from 75 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
