POLICE INVESTIGATE EMPTY FOREIGNER'S PROPERTIES

Filenews 30 November 2020 - by Dora Christodoulou

A headache is caused to the police and local authorities in the province of Paphos the many residences that currently remain unsupervised since they belong to foreigners who do not live permanently in Cyprus and who due to the restrictions of the pandemic are not able to visit them as often as usual.

A competent source confirmed this situation to "F", pointing out that the Paphos Police are drawing up a plan for the surveillance of hundreds of houses and in fact entire areas in communities where there is a strong presence of a foreign element and the existence of mansions belonging to foreign, non-residents.

The phenomenon is particularly pronounced, said this source, in areas such as Tala, Pegia, Kouklia and to a lesser extent in surrounding communities of the Municipality of Paphos. At these points, and on the basis of the planning carried out, patrols by police officers have already become very dense throughout the 24 hours, and coordination is now taking place with the separate authorities and with volunteers such as the Neighbourhood Observers, in order to bring the situation under control early on in order to send the message to the illegals that the absence of the owners does not imply and that these properties are a "free vine".
