245 NEW CASES SATURDAY, PLUS 79 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS FOR WHICH PCR TO BE CARRIED OUT

The Ministry of Health informs that a total of 13,443 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease.

A. MOLECULAR TEST : Of the 13,443 laboratory tests, 7,235 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the molecular method (PCR), with 245 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:

  • The 36 cases relate to cases that had been positively identified through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days and verified using the PCR method. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by the PCR method are included in the number of daily occurrences and the total number of cases below.
  • Of 414 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 45 cases were identified.
  • Of 2,414 samples taken through a private initiative, 101 cases were identified.
  • Of 186 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 14 cases were detected.
  • Of 396 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 11 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,027 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 18 cases were detected.
  • Of 191 samples taken in Paphos Province under the control of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 864 samples taken in Nicosia Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 4 cases were detected.
  • Of 302 samples taken in Larnaca Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 270 samples taken in Famagusta Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 1 case was detected.
  • Of 10 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 393 samples taken under the migrant structure control programme, 3 cases were identified.
  • Of 174 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 573 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1 case was identified.

In addition, 21 laboratory tests of samples taken by the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria were carried out, without the detection of a case.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 8,498.

B. Antigen rapid test: Of the 13,443 tests, 6,208 were performed using the rapid test method, with 79 positive results, identified as follows:

C. Hospitalized:

At Famagusta General Hospital, 63 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including five in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, a total of nine patients are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, three of whom are off the ventilator. A patient is being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Archbishop Makarios Hospital. Another 11 people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at nicosia General Hospital, while seven patients are being treated in the Limassol General Hospital.
