234 NEW CASES MONDAY, PLUS 70 POSITIVE RAPID TEST RESULTS WHICH WILL BE VERIFIED WITH PCR TEST

The Ministry of Health announces 262 new cases of coronavirus. Of these, 28 were individuals who had tested positive for rapid-tests in the previous days and were subsequently subjected to a molecular examination and are now officially confirmed as cases. In addition, the rapid test has now identified 70 positive results, which are expected to be confirmed by molecular examination.

A.MOLECULAR TEST : Of the 10,832 laboratory tests, 5,167 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the molecular method (PCR), with 234 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:

  • Of 484 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 126 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,351 samples taken through a private initiative, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 268 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 26 cases were detected.
  • Of 252 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 344 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 1,085 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a worker check that falls under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 8 cases were detected.
  • Of 327 samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 175 samples taken in The Province of Larnaca as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 1 case was detected.
  • Of 430 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 52 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 52 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken in the Nicosia Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 219 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken in Famagusta Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 52 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 25 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 103 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

B. Antigen rapid test: Of the 10,832 tests, 5,665 were performed using the rapid test method, with 70 positive results identified as follows:

In addition, the molecular test method verified the positive result for 28 samples of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by the PCR method are included in the number of daily occurrences and the total number of cases below.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 8,947.

C. Hospitalized:

In total, 110 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, as follows:
