The death of a female patient with COVID-19, aged 61, with underlying diseases, who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital is announced. The final cause of death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. The total number of deaths with covid-19 disease is 39, 24 men and 15 women, with an average age of 74 years.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 4,157 laboratory diagnoses identified 198 new cases of COVID-19 disease.
In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:
- Of 833 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 84 cases were identified.
- Of 1,807 samples taken through a private initiative, 82 cases were detected.
- Of 390 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 6 cases were identified.
- Of 263 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 20 cases were identified.
- Of 105 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 1 case was identified.
- Of 143 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was identified.
- Of 607 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 4 cases were identified.
In addition, the laboratory test of 9 samples taken under the migrant structure control programme was completed, without the detection of cases.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 7,051.
In addition, 47 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, five of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, a total of eight patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital, two of them off the ventilator. Another nine people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at Nicosia General Hospital.
It is noted that a total of 15 cases were detected at the Ekali rehabilitation centre. One concerns a worker identified in the previous days, while the remaining 14 are included in today's cases. Seven are employees and the other seven are tenants. As announced, a doctor and nurses were sent from Limassol General Hospital to assess their clinical condition and provide any assistance needed. In addition, a case was detected in a nursing home in Nicosia (elderly tenant) and it was arranged to sample all (staff and residents) tomorrow by the Ministry of Health. A positive person was also identified at the Stelios Ioannou Foundation in Nicosia and actions were also taken to check on the Foundation, while the relevant protocols were implemented.
It is recalled that due to the increased cases in nursing homes and other closed structures, and as already announced yesterday at the press conference, the molecular examination (PCR) audit of all workers in these places in Cyprus began today. This is the third time a control programme has been implemented in nursing homes and other closed structures. At the same time, as was also announced at yesterday's conference, in the coming days there will be rapid antigen testing in nursing homes and other closed structures for workers as well as tenants. In this way, targeted control is carried out on the specific population groups that have an increased risk of coronavirus disease.
