187 NEW CASES AND A DEATH, SUNDAY PLUS 121 POSITIVES FROM RAPID TESTS WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO A PCR

The death of a male patient with COVID-19, aged 87, with no underlying diseases, who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital, is announced. The final cause of death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. The total number of deaths with covid-19 disease is 44.28 men (64%) and 16 women (36%), with an average age of 75 years.

The Ministry of Health informs that a total of 9,527 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease.

A. Molecular Examination (PCRtest):Of the 9,527 laboratory tests, 3,223 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the molecular method (PCR), with 187 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:

  • Of the 84 samples taken to verify the positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days, we had a PCR test result for 56. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by the PCR method are included in the number of daily occurrences and the total number of cases below.
  • Of 554 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 52 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,100 samples taken through a private initiative, 52 cases were identified.
  • Of 397 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 14 cases were detected.
  • Of 246 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 6 cases were identified.
  • Of 244 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 6 cases were detected.
  • Of 280 samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 1 case was detected.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 123 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of the programme for the control of pupils, teachers and school staff, 198 laboratory tests were carried out.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 8,685.

B. Antigenrapidtest test: Of the 9,527 tests, 6,304 were performed using the rapid test method, with 121 positive results, identified as follows:

C. Hospitalized:

At Famagusta General Hospital, 64 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, six of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, a total of nine patients are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, three of whom are off the ventilator. Two patients are being treated in the Children's Intensive Care Unit of Archbishop Makarios Hospital. Another 12 people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at the Nicosia General Hospital, while 10 patients at the Limassol General Hospital are being treated in the COVID-19 ward.
