TWENTYFIVE NEW CASES AND A DEATH TODAY

The death of a male patient, aged 77, with other underlying diseases is announced today. Death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 27, and deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 are 20, 14 men and 6 women with an average age of 71 years.

With regard to new cases of COVID-19 disease, according to data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health, a total of 4,024 laboratory diagnoses identified 25 cases of SARS-CoV-2.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 173 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 13 cases were identified.
  • Of 980 samples taken through a private initiative, 6 cases were identified. Of these, 1 has a recent travel history.
  • Of 149 samples taken under the control programme of 10,000 workers re-activated during the second and third phase of the strategy for phasing out restrictions, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,720 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 3 cases were identified.
  • Of 166 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.

In addition, the following laboratory diagnoses were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 153 laboratory tests were carried out, and
  • Of the random sampling programme of 10,000 people, 683 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.

Based on the data so far, the total number of positive cases is 1,277.

In addition, five patients are being treated in a ward at Famagusta General Hospital.
